macular hole

My father developed a complete macular hole in Rt eye and a partial macular hole in Lt eye, detected in Nov,2005.He underwent surgery for both eyes in the following month. He recovered his vision to some extent in both the eyes.Subsequently he developed retinal detachment in the Rt eye in 2006,April for whidh he was operated again, his Lt eye was doing well at that time.He recovered his vision minimally in the Rt eye after this surgery.
In March 2007 partial macular hole recurred in the Lt eye,his VA was 6/18 after correction with glasses,he used a separate glass for near vision, only PL/PR was present in his Rt eye.We did'nt go ahead with a repeat surgery for the Lt eye this time as our doctor was reluctant.
His vision has'nt deteriorated further, till now. What is the prognosis hereafter, will his vision remain the same or worsen? He is a patient of Ankylosing Spondilytis & Bronchial Asthma as well.Awaiting for an early reply.
Thank you
BN

Because there are so many variables and the clinical course varies so much for patients with macular pathology no one can tell you what will happen in the future.

Please read the many posts on macular degeneration and macular holes. He should do daily Amsler grid test and I would suggest a multivitamin and 2 Preservision with Lutein per day.
