microscope diplopia

Hi there. My name is Idit and I am a young doctor. I have a diplopia (I see double - horizontally) - only when I look through a microscope and some times when I am tired and looking on something very close to me, like a book. The two images that I see are quite far from one another and one does not look like a shadow of the other. Both of them are in focus. I tried changing the distance between the two lens and changing the refraction adaptation, without any change. T A prism ruler of 25 D. made the two figures converge into one , but I was told that prism glasses of this D. is too much and can cause damage for my sight in the long distance. .This is important to me as I thought of neurosurgery for my internship. Thank you very much for helping me.

You need to be checked in the ophthalmology department of your medical school. You should try and get in to see a strabismus specialist (opften called a pediatric ophthalmologist). You need your depth perception checked and a detailed examination of the 12 extraocualr muscles.
