monovision cataract surgery

How long does it usually take for one to adjust to monovision? I had the left eye done
in December for distance vision and one week ago, I had the right one for near vision.
Neither distance or near vision is clear unless I close one eye and then I see clearly for
the correction for that particularl eye. Last week, after surgery, the eye had edema, but I
would suspect this is pretty normal.  I will be seeing the doctor in a week and will ask about it,
but in the meantime, I wondered if anyone had words of wisdom.

I am 5 weeks post right eye cataract surgery.  Left eye will not be done for 6 months.  Just received my new glasses and am having a terrible time reading from right eye.  Left eye is a much better reading eye.  Will the right eye improve with time.  Dr did mention monovision.  The glasses person said to give it time but how much.  Distance is great in right eye.

Thank you

Yes lasik on the reading eye is one option. Waiting 3 months is not likely to be a problem and will give you longer to see if you can adjust.

I had cataract surgery in December and got monovision -- one eye for distance and one eye for close vision. I hate it. Maybe I have not waited long enough (one month) but I do not feel as if I ever will adjust to it. My doctor said that he could change the lens if I don't like it. I recently lost my health insurance but will go on medicare in three months. Can I wait that long to have the lens changed? Is changing the lens really possible? I don't want to take a risk with my vision. Would LASIK on the reading eye solve the problem?

If you haven't adjusted to monovision by 8 weeks post op you may not and the "reading" eye may need LASIK. Also you assuredly will need glasses for some things (progressive bifocial)
