multiple Retina tears

In the past 18 months have had:
Retina tear - detachment- repaired with Buckle  Aug 2006  Right eye- Surgeon said Retina thin despite computer topography that was on or above accepted lines.
Feb 2007-- Vitrectomy-pucker peel for Macular pucker scheduled  ( after  capsolotomy that did nothing ) Michael-Good advice for cataract patient with issues to have specialist check macula before capsolotomy  Laser for small tear below macula area the same day.
Feb 2007-( 10 days later )  Retina laser both eyes for lattice degeneration for prevention and laser both eyes for small holes and tears ( 5 ) all but 2 around buckle ( done before Vitreftomy-peel )
Mar 2007- during Vitrectomy--peel doc saw a small tear in retina and did laser next day to repair
Mar 2007 - one more tear to fix in retina
Feb 2008-- Laser for 2 tears and 3 holes in left eye retina .
After each Laser treatment the Doc said looks good and should be fine- This last time he said the same thing--I reminded him that I was told that after all the other Laser work. He said that well the Retina is rather thin but should be ok and shouldn't have any more problems.

I want your honest answer-- If it were you--What would your feeling be??
I have other issues effecting my sight and only the first tear/ detachment effected my vision-( Retina  issues )  all other
tears or holes were above or below macula area with only one below that was close.

Doc says nothing I can do to help Retina and make them stronger.
Doc says that nothing I do or did causes the tears.
Doc says that other eye issues effect my cornea / lens and not related to the Retina .

No one seems to be able to tell me why my Retina is tearing and getting holes and the Vitreous is detaching-- I am 53 years old and seems like my eye issues are for someone in their 70's

Why??

Before I went into Ophthalmology I was a general practitioner and I had to give a lot of young people bad news. The two most difficult questions in Medicine (and in life) are 1. WHY ME? and 2. WHY NOW.

Sometimes there are answers (smoking and lung cancer), sometimes something predisposes (high myopia and retinal detachments) and sometimes its just plain bad luck.

I would get at least two other opinions from different retina surgeons about your options and your situation then go with the majority opinion or with the surgeon you feel best about.
