new onset double vision

Hello, I wrote in asking a question about new onset of double vision.  I was prescribed prism lenses.  I apparently was tilting my head to compensate for the double vision.  I was reading with one eye closed as well.  My question is should I try to find out why I have double vision?  Or just go with the prism lenses?   I do have a neurologist.  I called a Neuro-OP's office and they basically told me that the treatment was prism lenses.  I thought going to a Neuro Eye doc was to determine why I am having double vision.  I do have a large pineal cyst pressing on the tectal region of my brain. Would the doc be able to do tests to determine what is causing it?  Thanks

Yes you do need a neuro-ophthalmology exam TO FIND OUT WHY YOU HAVE DOUBLE VISION.  Only after a reason is found can treatment be considered.

I have had double vision surgery myself, prisms could not correct my vision. It does help but still 10% of the time i still see double. The surgery also made me seem to be more senseative to bright lights. But I had not other choice but surgery if prisms work for you i would say by no means have the surgery.

Yes, IMO, you definitely should try to find out why you have double vision.  There are many possible causes.  See a neuro-ophthalmologist or a strabismus specialist.  Depending on the cause, it's possible that your double vision could be eliminated by a simple surgical procedure or even a Botox injection.
