optic atrophy and its possible cure

Hi
My grandson who is 2 and half years old has been diagnosed with optic atrophy and development delay.
We would like to know whether any cure is possible and suggest further line of actions. Also what is care to be taken of patients suffering from optic atrophy.
Any help in this direction will be greatly appreciated

Main thing is to try and keep the optic atrophy from getting worse ( many causes) and protect the good eye and make sure there is no life threatening condition causing the optic atrophy.

If vision is bad i that eye will need protective glasses and discussion of avoiding contact sports and eye injury prone activities

I am almost 29, I've had optic atrophy for the majority of my life, caused by hydrocephalus at around 5 or 6 months old, but the sight-loss was undetected until I was about 3 or 4 and tripping over a lot more than a usual young child at nursery and getting frustrated with small-piece puzzles etc. that I couldn't do due to sight-loss and not knowing it at that time.
I've been reading these posts with interest and also live in hope that some day there will be a way of fusing nerves of the optic nrve back together again.
I oongratulate you all in your life's achievements with the condition, I feel myself I've come a long way since the doctors first finding this condition along with the true damage of hydrocephalus: I've been to secondary school and acquired fairly good GCSEs, got equivalent to A-levels (GNVQs, 4), a BA degree in Journalism, CLAIT, IBT 2, ECDL, Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety qualifications and have just started an NVQ in Business Administration as well as bringing up an almost 5-year-old daughter single-handedly for 4 years 'til I met my fiance a year ago today.
I bet any if not all of you have got lots of achievements like these behind you, so we're none of us lickd yet, despite no cure :-D
