optic nerve damage

due to chronic sinus infection, infection covered optic nerve in the left eye and shut down the signal to the brain, caused blindness. needed surgery: they scrapped infection off of optic nerves causing total blindness in both eyes in 2002, total blindness was for three years, then i started seeing shadows and shapes, now i'm visually impaired. so now the question is how to replenish the optic nerve because i have chronic pain all the time. is there any treatments available???? please respond to  ***@****.

No way to repair optic nerve. Protect good eye from injury or illness. See a pain management clinic.

I'd like to know if there is any researches about this issue? and also do you think there will be a solution, a surgery or any way that can repair optic nerve in the near future? or  any visible results, solution...?

Thank you for your answers, they are so important for me since I have one blind eye and the other one has just the half of visual field, and this since 1996 due to a tumor.

Yes, much research money is being spent on it. The problems that are involved are the same for people that have their spinal chords cut (think Christopher Reeves). Yes someday it will be possible but no way to tell when.
