optic nerve dresen

My granddaughter who  is 17 was  told several years ago she had optic nerve dresen.  The doctor told my daughter that nothing could be done.  What should she be doing and what kind of dr should she be seeing?  Her glasses are being changed about 2 times per year.

No treatment is available for ON drusen. Glasses have nothing to do with it. Most don't cause problems some tiny % do. She needs to be under the care of an Eye MD. Find one at www.aao.org

Today is the first day in my whole life I can remember hearing the word "drusen."  I am sure that our Opthamologist explained it well, but I zoned out after I saw the look on his face and the pictures that even I could tell were abnormal.  Could you please explain this to me?  I hear the 1 in 1000 part, but right now, I just need more education.  I also need to know if something I did or something I have allowed my son to do has caused this.  Also, if we are # 1000, what does that mean?

This is a good reference with pictures. You didn't do anything. We don't know why some people develop optic nerve drusen.
