optic pain no answers?

by renee80, Jan 21, 2009 02:34PM
Dear Dr.

I have done everything i can and still have no answers

30yr female with pain behind left eye daily, pain increases with movements of eye

you would think what i have always thought optic neuritis , but can't seem to get a dx of that, even from some of the best optic neuro's in the biz...

strangely i have over the last 18 months gone from being told i had 20/20 in left eye to being told i had an assytigmatsim and the script for the left changed 3 times, ( increasing ) over the year, ( i do not wear glasses )

i have never heard of a asstigmatism causing pain behind eye and only causing pain upon lots of eye movement

something doesn't make sense what sense could it be or are then missing the ON?

( I have had mri's as well, they don't see and spots on optical nerve itself)

Astigmatism does not cause pain. It's not likely that you have optic neuritis which does not cause pain for months and months at a time. A possible diagnosis would be orbital inflammatory diease.

If you have alread been to several neuroophthalmologists then see an oculoplastic surgeon. Find one near you at www.aao.org

Thanks for your thoughts  But couldn't I be experiencing
"Uhthoff's symptom", ( the worseing of systems after an episode of ON )?

No that is reduced vision in a hot environment and pain is not a component of Uthoff's symptom.
