optical nerve swelling

Posted By Kim on May 18, 1999 at 10:56:07
About 2 months ago, I suddenly started seeing a break when looking at horizontal lines. I went to my optometrist who diagnosed me with central serous retinopothy (CSR) in the left eye. During his exam, he also noticed swelling of both my optic nerves, my right eye being  more pronounced. He consequently referred me to an opthamologist, asking her to look at the CSR and what he called pseduopapilledema.
After visiting the opthamologist, she confirmed the CSR and the swelling nerves. She ordered a visual acuity test, sonnagram and photographs of my eyes, and then scheduled a follow up visit for 3 weeks later.
At that time, I was still experiencing the CSR and my nerves were still swollen. My doctor was unsure of what was causing the swelling or the CSR. I haven't experienced any severe headaches or eye pain, although I do have frequent sinus-related headaches and have recently experience an occasional throb-like pain in my right eye. I've also been taking monocycline for acne.
At that visit, my doctor suggested I stop taking the monocycline for about 6 weeks to see if that had any effect on my condition.
Today when I went for my follow up, she didn't notice any pronounced change in the swelling. I took more photos and scheduled a follow up visit in 3 months.
Are there any other tests I should have? Are there any other known cases of minocycline or tetracyclines causing this sort of swelling?
I'd appreciate any information or thoughts about my condition.
THanks
