orbital decompression healing time

I have thyroid eye disease, diagnosed over a year ago.  I have been treated with high dose steroids, radiation therapy [Mar/Apr 2007].  In September my ocular plastic surgeon did fatty decompression of the orbits to relieve unrelenting pressure.  Pressure relief mostly successful, but eyes still bulge, especially left eye.  I am seeing another ocular plastic surgeon this week, anticipating that he will recommend bony decompression surgery.  How long does the healing take after this surgery?  How soon could strabismus surgery be done to correct my pronounced double vision.  Not seeing "straight" is getting very old.  Any information is appreciated.

I called a clinic on my plan for my eyes.  I have the right eye protruding and it doesnt close all the way.  I went to this clinic today.  The doctor never did see me, although when I made the appointment, I clearly stated I wanted a physician skilled in Graves Diseases.  They took a picture of my eye, called my family physician and the girl came back to my room.  She told me Dr. Mack couldnt help me.  She told me to call Dr. Kwitko office in Clearwater, Fl.  I called and was told they dont accept my insurance, and I would have to pay 550.00 for a visit.  Im on disability and barely get by now.  I dont have that kind of money.  The girl at the clinic gave me the picture they took of my eye, and now I feel worse than ever.  Looking at this picture, is gross, and I feel like hiding.  So tell me what can I do if anything about this horrible protruding eye of mine.  I live in the Clearwater, Fl area.  I have Universal Masterpiece Insurance.  I knew it was bad, but looking at the picture its Horrible.  I will get sunglasses and wear them from now on.  Im 58 years of age.  Does anyone else feel this way.  I am so depressed right now.  I have had thyroid problems for 15 years.
