painful eye muscles

Hello, I am a 22 year old male who for the past 3 months have had on and off eye pain coming from what seems to be the muscles in my eye. It feels as though my eyes are constantly straining and it hurts to look up and sometimes even when I look from side to side. I was very worried at first seeing that maybe this pain was related to my optic nerve resulting in optical neuritis which is very common in MS patients. Luckily my opthalmologist said that my optic nerve looks fine and that I did well on my visual field test. It is a dull pain that creeps up usually at nighttime but occasionally during the day as well. I do wear glasses and my prescription has slightly changed but not much. No pressure behind my eyes are causing this either. Anybody with similar undiagnoed eye pain? Please let me know thanks.

Some of the things that can cause pain around or behind the eye when the eyes are normal include: sinus problems, dental problems, facial nerve neuralgia, high blood pressure, migraine, cervical arthritis, tension-stress-anxiety, .

If it gets worse consider seeing an Ear-Nose-Throat physician and a neuro-ophthalmologist.

Callistus:  You need a baseline eye exam by an Eye MD physician (ophthalmologist). That's about all I can say that would be true and helpful to you.
