painful eyes

I have Ocular Rosacea and it gets very bad at times and have chronic styes. Can you explain why this condition is so painful? I am off and on Doxycyclines and Erythromycin ointment. Is there any other new treatment? I also have glaucoma and have Sjogrens. I have some days that I am unable to read or drive.
Thanks for answer,

I saw my eye doctor again with terrible rosacea and the stye was so painful in my right eye. I have felt as though the pain was burning through the back of my eye. He put me back on the erthromycin ointment and the Doxycycline and he said I will have to take Doxycycline the rest of my life. Is all the pain from the rosacea or could the glaucoma cause some too. It has been terrible to handle. I am on Travatan Z and doing eye scrubs 3x/day. I also had the tear duct plugs again. I did not know they had fallen out. Should I go to another doctor for the surgery.
Thanks so much!

I am on Restasis and do have chronic blephritis and do the scrubs. Is there a difference blephritis/and demodex? I use Travatan drops for the glaucoma so is there a difference Travatan Z? I do eye srubs every dayx2 with mild cetaphil soap since I have the inflammatory Rosacea on my face as well. I need relief somehow. My eyes burn all the time. It has been so difficult the last few weeks. I really appreciate you help. Hopefully I spelled correctly. It hurts to look at his screen.
btw i also have plugs.

Restasis is helpful in some of my patients.  You may want to try omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil supplements.  I have some patients like this that also have demodex follicularis of the lashes which also causes a lot of irritation.  Tea tree shampoos are helful with that if you have it.  Doxycylcine low dose is helpful and sometims a gently lid cleaner like oculsoft lid scrubs can help.  Obviously dry eyes are playing a part, as if often the case, and these things I have told you about may help that.  (Don't use tea tree shampoo unless you are really found to have demodex.)  Finally, I would do everything possible to reduce glaucoma drops.  Look into SLT laser for glaucoma - have doctor use the minimal drops necessary and then if needed us only prservative free glaucoma drops like travatan z or preserative free timoptic.

I have a patient just like you and have made great strides with these type of adjustments.
