pink eye problems.

by ler012, Jul 30, 2008 04:00PM
Is it possible to have pink eye for a long period of time?  I had it in the beginning of May, so I went to my doctor and she gave me eye drops.  They did not work AT ALL! I ended up getting a new bottle of eye drops and it eventually kind of went away after like 3 weeks.  Is that normal?.. or could that be mistaken for something else?  Also, I feel like I might have it again.. the skin that comes into contact with my eye is getting itchy like it was before, however I do not have clumpy eyelashes or that gritty feeling in my eyes anymore; just the itchiness...I just want to make sure I have this taken care of so I don't go blind from anything!!

Basically, what I'm asking is could this possibly be taken for pink eye when it is actually something more serious?

It could definitely be something other than pink eye and either more serious or less serious.  In fact sometimes the drops used for treatment can cause more problems than the patient had originally.  The eye is so complex and different conditions can masquerade as viral conjuctivitis.  I strongly advise you see an EyeMD Ophthalmologist to get on the proper treatment regimen for whatever you are found to have.
