post cataract glaucoma

by dexter_kent, Mar 21, 2009 06:47AM
I am 18. when i was born i had cataracts of both the eys. my eys have been fine. i have been useing glasses untill the past 5 years. i went in for my check up yesterday and my eye pressure had been raised to 30. they did a periferal test and the eye pressure test and one more thing i dont remember. it was a flashing red light. i think it was to take a picture of my retina. i have shaking of the eye becasue of post cataracts sergury.  the doctor told me to take these drops once a night for the next 3 weeks and come back to give me a check up. now i knwo this is pretty high asd far as eye pressure goes. i had asked if it was the result of me keeping mycontacts in for days at a time and he said " no". the thing i would like to ask is. how should a persive this information. he told me if the pressure does not go down in the next 3 weeks i have a posablity of forming glaucoma. im not gonna lie im scared as **** right but then agian this is not the best place to be asking. i know noone can say anything 100% but i would like ot have some feedback if posible. thank you for your feedback if you give any!

It is absolutely critical that you be under the care of an Eye MD ophthalmologist and not an optometrist. Optoms are not MDs, have not been to Medical School, have not had medical residencies. IN some states by spending huge sums of money and thousands of hours lobbying they have passed laws that allow them to take care of glaucoma.

In my opinion this is like handing a nurse a scalpel and asking her to do heart surgery. Not ideal at all.

If you have an MD eye physician and your are comfortable you need to make a list of your questions and ask next visit. If you are seeing an Optom and you live in the USA go to www.aao.org to find an Eye MD near you, perhaps even one that specializes in glaucoma. Or ask your personal MD to refer you.

It sounds to me like you are under treatment for glaucoma right now.
