post cataract surger w/lasix and cornea abrasion

In August, 09, I had cataract removal with restore lens.  Procedure appeared to be successful, although Dr. said would need lasix following cataract removal.  (It is important to know, I was a gas perm contact lens wearer for 20 years and went without glasses for 7 days prior to surgery)    Referred to cornea specialist in his office.  2 mos. post surgery, vision was 20/90 and there was a "flap" which needed laser.   Procedured performed successfully, no problems. Then 1/4/10 lasix (PRK) was performed- 96 hrs. after procedure, contact lens removed - eye looked good, no problems.  Within 24 hours, extreme pain, light sensation - upon waking- went back to the dr. - "cornea abrasion" .  Slow healing - began as 3.6mm defect and now 2 weeks later 2.3 defect. (Dr. is checking eye after 3 days).    Eye is extrenely blurry, vision impaired - difficulty reading, esp. computer.  Now being treated with Valtrex, dr. says it is worth a try???? Decreased vision throughout the day.  Mentioned RCE to dr. and he did not think this is a possibility.  Any suggestions for treatment?  Also, at what point should I get a second opinion?  I feel confident in the cornea specialist, but I do not want to overlook anything.  Thank you

First of all you should have been out of gas perm lenses for a few months for stabilization of the cornea.  In my experience it can take about 3 months for the cornea to stabilize.   I had one patient take 8 months to stabilize.  I have no suggestions regarding you problem after PRK.  Get a second opinion.
