premature grandson needs vision help

My premature grandson born early only 24 weeks and on oxygen for long time, has a hole in his right retina and a detached retina in the left eye and I believe he has retinaopthy,  He has had 2 operations. Is their anything that can be done to help his vision so he won't be blind.  And who, and where?   Thank you.

Your GS most likely has retinopathy of permaturity. It is a severe problem. He needs to be under the care of pediatric retinal specialists. They will do all they can to help him.

Confirm with the pediatrician that these types of Eye MDs have been consulted.

You can ask the child's pediatrician/neonatologists for a second opinion with a retina specialist.

Please know that because the lawsuit R US situation in the USA (home of more lawyers than the rest of the world put together) many retina surgeons and pediatric ophthalmologists will NOT SEE patients with retinopathy of prematuring so you better call ahead and ask specifically about their practice.

(Another example of how the out of control tort law in the USA increases the cost of care and decreases the availability.
