question on recent eye surgery

Last week my husband had surgery on a detached retina. It was due to the fact that he is a minus 21. He had the laser attachment and silicone oil injected. The silicone oil has improved his vision but of course it is still about a minus 11. His glasses do not work anymore and it is so difficult for him to function with one eye with such poor vision.WIll he be able to wear a contact with the silicone oil or will he have to wait until oil is removed? The Dr. says it will be about 3 months before removel (removal). Will glasses help his vision??? I feel for everybody who has had this happen to them. My husband is a young healthy man who can not even work at this time. It really is devastating. All the information I read is so negative...Please tell us that some people have good outcomes...

We will not be seeing our Dr. for anotherweek and my husband is real anxoius about this question regarding contacts so thank you for answering:)

I had an RD last September 08 and went through the gas bubble for 6 weeks,  My visual acuity wound up at 20/20.  Advice, follow the dr's instructions to the "T" and do not be afraid to ask questions if you are not sure about activities or treatment.  Do yourself a favor make sure you speak to the doctor him or herself do not take advice from these tech's, no offense, some are wanna be's and the wrong input could ruin you.
