question

I got my eye examined by a few Doctors.....my questions is why some opthamolgist exam the pateint sitting up straight and some have their patients lying down flat as well. Is the opthamolgist able to see more when the patient is lying down flat like tumors or is thar just preference by the doctor. Just curious.

Retina specialist make patients lye down so that they can see more regions of retina for detecting retinal holes & other abnormalities.

While during routine examination slit lamp microscope is mostly used which can detect abnormalities in areas of eye like lens, cornea, lid margin, central retina etc. for this the patient is made to sit in a chair with chin made to rest in front of slit lamp.

It is the preference of the doctor.  Many retinal specialist examine the retinal without making the patient lye down.

Yes,  some may require scleral depression.  However, this can be done in a sitting, partially reclined, or fully reclined position.

When is the scleral depression technique used? Is that something normal that all doctors used? When would doctor used that?
