red irritated eyelids with fever

I have had problems with my eyelids and the rims since I was a child. They will get red and itchy and flakey. They have been getting worse the last few years (8 to 10). Now not only are the eyelids red and irritated sometimes my eye balls feel like they are on fire and I run a low grade fever. I am now 60 - is it possible my immune system has finally gotten to the point where it can't fight what ever this is? I have been given diagnosis of things like 'blephritis', 'allergy reaction' and 'granulated eyelids'. Has anyone else had such a long standing problem with their eyes or eyelids?

You may have chronic blepharitis.  Have you been treated with antibiotics, steroids, and lid hygiene?   The last being the most important.  It is like brushing your teeth.
