redness and dilation 24 hours+ after exam

My 69 year old mother had an eye exam with dilation over 24 hours ago.  Her pupils are still dilated, and her eyes are red.  She also has glaucoma and inserted her eye drops (timoptic) the night after the exam.  Could her eye drops be the cause of the prolonged dilation and redness?

Dear MsClaudia,

There are dilating eye drops which can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. I would recommend that you call your mom’s doctor’s office so that they are aware of her condition.  This is not common.
