removal of retinal buckle

Posted by hannah on May 12, 1999 at 15:53:05
8 yrs ago I had a retainal deatchment which was corrected by the use of a buckle. I recently had surgery to restitch where the buckle was starting to pul away.  This stitching is now also pulling apart I would like to know what may happen if the buckle is removed entirely? If the retina detaches again are there other options than having a 2nd buckle put in ie: laser or gas bubble.

Many times buckles are removed years after the initial surgery with no problems.  It is best to have this evaluated by a retina specialist.  Yes could could still have another buckle placed at a later date if the retina were to redetach but it is usually more difficult to place because of scar tissue.
