restor lens removal

by disappointed66, Aug 28, 2009 02:50PM
Has anyone had the Restor lens (or any other) exchanged.  I am scheduled tohave an explant and exchange on August 31.  There are some risks that it cannot be done.  I had it put in 4 weeks ago.  Has anyone gone throught this with out a problem even after this amount of time.?

My Restor was removed after six months without a problem. If you have a skilled surgeon who knows what do do, you should be fine. I had one tiny stitch removed the day after and no complications. Good luck.

I have been hoping to hear from you.Thank you for your reply  My surgeon has been in practice for over 25 years and considered one of the best. Does it make a difference that he has not removed a Restor Lens before. He has removed other lenses though.

Thanks again

Glad to be of help. ( I did reply to your two direct inquires, hope you received them)
Best wishes tomorrow.
My surgeon is also one of the top eye surgeons in the world and he also had not removed a large number of IOL's which did concern me, He was extremely skilled though and used to very complex eye surgeries. He told me that if he got in there and was unable to remove the lens safely, he wouldn't... being very conservative. He was fairly certain that he could however, based on his pre surgery observations and that fortunately was the case.
Trust in your surgeon and your decision. Try to relax and focus on having the vision that you deserve after the surgery. I think you, as others before you, will be pleased with your decision to explant.

Best Wishes,
londonbridge

Thank you so much.  I am new to this forum so I do not know how to navagate .to find replies.
My surgeon is a skilled eye surgeon, not necessarily one of the best in the world, but has been featured in "Top Doctors:New York Metro".

He said the same thing to me as your doctor said to you.  He was going to be conserative in removing the lense safely.  My lens has only been in for 1 month, so there should not be much trouble.

I thank you and Jodie.  Both of you have really helped ease my mind sso much. At this time tomorrow, it will be out and over.  Thanks for the wishes.  Will post again as soon as I can after surgery

You gave me so much courage by what you had done and at a longer interval. The  Restor lens was successfully removed this morning.  It was exchanged for Tecnis1 Asphkic  iol    I am sure this will work fine. No more night/light unbelievable  sunbursts glare.
I will wear glasses.  As long as I can see clear If ther is a time I do not want to wear my glasses for the day I will wear contacts.  It almost sounds like the best of both worlds to me now.

Thanks again for you help and information.   I hope I can be of help to others.

Congratulations on your excellent outcome, Lorraine.  The Tecnis aspheric monofocal is an excellent lens.  When you have time, check out the patient education video about it at www tecnisiol com.

I'm still not seeing good. There is like a fog in front of my vision.  It has only been one day.
Saw surgeon today,  He said the cornea is cloudy and hopefully it will clear up by it self.in a couple of days.  I can only see the big E on the chart.

Any comments on this.

I did go on the tehnics web site and they are great lenses.  Just need to ge this fog cleared up.

It defiitely takes time to see clearly after the explant. This can depend on the size of the incision among other things and the cornea needs time to heal as the surgeon said. keep your spirits up and you should have an excellent final outcome.

Dear Friend

Again you give me courage. You always seem to know the right thing to say. Just as long as that Restor lens is out I will be patient!!!
(I'll try anyway) Someone else got in touch with me who is having explants done on the 15th.  It felt good for ME  to give someone the help and courage they need..

I am a breast cancer survivor.  That was the worst.  So things will work out with my vision. I have a doctor's appointment on the 8th.  He said we should know more by  then
about my vision and it can be corrected one way or another.

I hope all is going well for you. Are you going to have the other eye done, or did you do that already?

Thanks so much for your replies. I look forward to hearing from you.

Lorraine

Glad you are feeling a little better about things. It is very hard to be patient I know, because I have been there. Yes it does feel good to be able to share experiences and help one another, I agree.
It is good to put things in perspective too. You are a survivor as you say and so you have strengths to overcome any residual difficulties with your vision. I predict that there will be a good way to achieve satisfactory vision once your eye is completely healed. I wish you continued good luck.
As for me, I will probably have my right eye done at some point by the surgeon who did my explant. While I take nothing for granted, I believe it will be so much simpler than having the Restor and then the explant. I am grateful each and every day for my vision and I will never take it for granted.

Best wishes,
londonbridge

I can totally understand your problem.  I had cataract surgery 6 wks. ago,  Technis multifolcal lenses implanted and landed up with a retinal hole, laser treatment & strands of floaters that are driving me crazy.  I am a nervous reck & feel like a ticking timebomb.  I still get flashes also.   I wish I never had them put in and now I don't know what to do.  I paid extra money for these lenses only to get glares and glares shaped like concentric circles while driving at night.  Any help you can offer me or anyone else suffering with these problems would be greatly appreciated.

I had the Tecnics 1 aspheric iol lens put in my left eye 5 days ago.  The are not premium lenes. This is suppose to be an excellent lense.  It is like a foggy night. The dr. said it may clear up by itself. I was told to give the cornea time to heal. Last night i started to see a little clearerand focused on things I could not see prior.  It was not perfect, but I could read large letters on the tv and see the tv really good.  I was able to see   things that I couldn't see before, like the clock.and my husbands face and things on paper were not blank. And I drove at night and the lights did no bother me!  I was so happy I felt sure that the condition was clearing up.  This morning back to the same foggy vision.  I do not know if this is normal or not.  I do have one floater from time to time.  I had the Restor lens explanted after1 month because I was experiencing the same kind of horrors that you are, eespecially at night.I  I wouild have had a nervous breakdown if I did not have that dreaded Restor lens explanted. Maybe this could be an option for you. I. now very little about he eyes. So a really do not know what advise to give you.  I learned a lot from this forum   Jodie J. and Londonbridge were both a tremendous help to me..  Do some research.  A lot of people are getting the multifocal lense explanted. Good luck.  Keep me posted

Don't despair yet. Five days is still pretty early and you are having improovement. I have a friend who took almost six months until his cornea fully healed and his vision gradually improoved during that time until today it is fine. Just keep working with your doctor. He also had periods of the lens clearing up and then going back to foggy. Sometimes it was worse it bright light.
Take care,
londonbridge
