retina laser

For the second time in 6 weeks I have had to have laser done on my eye for a retina tear.  Thesecond tear was in a different area than the first.  What causes this to happen?  Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?  Should I keep my eyes moist with tear drops?

Yes, the vitreous can pull on the retina as it shrinks, degenerates and tries to pull away from the retina.  You need to limit your activity for a while and make sure the retina is healing well and all tears sealed.  Your retinal specialist should be able to take excellent care of  you.

Generally, retinal tears are caused by the vitreous gel tugging against the retina. However, they can be caused by other means.
If you want a more specific answer ask your doctor about what caused your tears.
