retina operation

Posted by jeni on August 04, 1999 at 09:34:58
My niece is due to have a retina detachment operation in the UK
I would like to know what is involved and what are the chances of recovery of her sight (which is not good anyway)
In our family we have a history of Marfan Syndrome does this affect the success rate of the operation, my niece has many Marfan symptoms
Any information on the type of operation they will perform would be appreciated

first of all with out examining your neice i could not venture a guess at a possible outcome-  sorry-  but in general   marfan's syndrome is associated with a high incidence of retinal detachment and it is not a good prognostic factor, though many patients do very well in the long run    good luck   with everything
