retina problems and poor vision

The past year I have had several eye concerns in both eyes. Right eye - retinal detachment repaired, cataract removed and replaced with a toric lens and most recently a membrane peel for a macular pucker. My vision now in that eye is about 20/50 with some distortion.  Left eye- two retinal tears repaired with a laser with a cataract creating some vision problems. Vision is around 20/30 corrected.  The ideal solution to help improve my vision, according to my Ophthalmologist, would be to remove the cataract of course and replace with another toric lens. However at this time he feels that my left eye with the HX retinal tears might be a bit risky so he suggested a contact lens for that eye only and reading glasses for up close vision which did not improve my overall vision.  My problem I am having a difficult time getting my eyes to work together, things seem very blurry as opposed to just using one eye. This is creating problems with everyday activities such as driving and computer work. What can be done to improve my vision, until it is safe to have the cataract on my left eye removed? Is there another specialist that might could offer some help? I am currently being followed by my retina surgeon and a general Ophthalmologist for vision correction.  Thank you very much.

A binocular vision (strabismus) specialist might be helpful.  A quick fix might involve placing a Bangerter foil (or scotch tape) on the inside of the glasses lens of one eye.  This would blur the vision in that eye and hopefully make it more comfortable for you to perform everyday activities.  Your general ophthalmologist should be able to help you.
