retina tears

Two years ago I had 7 tears in my eyes, (5 in my right and 2 in my left eye).  I have just found out that I have a new tear in my left eye right beside the previous one that was lazer treated.  These are due to my very poor eye sight.  I am 54 and have been wearing glasses since I was 6 years old.  I horse back ride and two days ago my horse gave a huge buck, some horses can get very excitable in the spring weather, luckily I did not fall off but both feet came out of my stirups at the same time and I do have a sore left shoulder from the jerk.  Could this have contributed to my left eye now having a tear?  I am schuedule for surgery tomorrow morning and will ask the surgeon, however, I would like another opion as well.

That is really important information. Also, at your age, you should watch for PVD. This can contribute to detachments. It caused mine and my doctors had never told me anything about it, You need to watch your eyes for symotoms of detachment when this is going on, especially with your history. Increases in floater/flashers should send you to the doctor..

If your question is whether the horse bucking could have caused the new tear - the answer is yes, quite possibly.  It can also happen just about any day from normal daily activities IF you are severly nearsighted and have a tendency toward retinal tears or detachments.
