retinal detachment surgery question

Hello,

My husband has had 5 surgeries for retinal detachment and partial detachment, and also 1 cataract surgery.  The doctor has tried laser surgery, applying a buckle, and adding oil to hold the retina in place in various operations.  The doctor said that my husband could try surgery again using the gas bubble and have this surgery at a lower altitude and recuperate at the lower altitude.  We live at 3400 feet above sea level and the only way to get to our home is going through an altitude of 5500 feet above sea level.  The doctor has indicated this may be why the previous surgeries did not work.  The surgeries were done at an altitude of 1900 feet.

We have made arrangements to have my husband's surgery at an altitude of around 600 feet above sea level and stay there for as long as it takes to, hopefully, have this surgery work out.  My husband's vision in the eye affected after surgeries has always been wavy lines with basically only peripheral vision.  His detachment in the eye began 2 years ago.

We appreciate any advice that you can provide.

This is often difficult surgery, multiple surgeries and poor results as a review of the many discussions of retinal detachment surgery on this forum will attest. I doubt the altitude has had any effect or will have any effect on past and future surgery.
