retna detachment surgery

retna detachment surgery

I am taking care of my sister who had retna detachment surgery two days ago.  During the post op the Dr. ordered 60mg prednisone for 4 days and to taper down by 10mg every 4 days.  Also she is using Pred Forte every hour while awake.  Dr said all the preds are to help with swelling bc she is face down all of the time.  I know there isn't any other choice than the gas bubble and looking down 24/7 but by looking down are there ramifications to this?  Does it or could it do any long term damage the the eye?
Thank you,
Sis

We do not give post operative advise. Your questions will have to come from the surgeon.

The oral prednisone and the PredForte are both to reduce swelling and inflammation of the eye.
Being face down will not harm your sister, although it may be quite difficult to maintain this position.
The gas bubble may cause a cataract and high IOP but other than that there aren't too many worries.
Good luck to your sister.
