reversing cataracts, etc. with N-Acetylcarnosine, a natural histidine-containing dipeptide, as a potent ophthalmic drug in treatment of human cataracts

Over the past 11 years a Russian bio-physicist has studieded the use of use these eye drops.  Thru a number of validated studies he does claim reversal of cataracts as well as corrections of other eye problems, i.e., glaucoma, using these drops which are available through  Innovative Vision Products, Inc. with the formula of 1% N-acetylcarnosine (NAC) lubricant eye drops applied topically to the eyes of older drivers to reduce glare disability and improve distance acuities for driving.  These studies claim to be viable.  Also in speaking with a representative of Can-C Wise Choice Medicine at 1-800-861-4936, she indicated that opthamologists would not agree on this procedure.  As I have been diagnosed with cataracts .... and also narrow angle glaucoma (although they say I do not have glacoma!) and probably won't as I had a laser surgery procedure to allow the pressure to drop by allowing fluid to flow more easily thru the narrow angles, I have been increasingly concerned about the cataract procedure.  I do not have fuzzy vision although I do experience some glare.  I have far sighted visition in the right eye, and near sighted in the left (and the left is progressing more near) and the right is now at plano.....My husband who is 9 years younger and does not have cataracts as stated from his recent eye exam sees some glare as I do and we compare what we see which seems very close as  best as we can determine.    I sometimes feel that because of age they expect you should have certain procedures done.  I do not doubt that there is the cataract situation, but I do not feel it is to point of having the procedure...but I would like to have my glasses updated, or at least give this procedure a fighting chance with the drops which Babizhayev, the Russian bio-physicist, has developed.  I am certain that there are many in 3rd world countries that cannot get either the procedure or the drops ... but would it not be fantastic to be able to use drops to treat people who do not have that access to surgery.  And I still do not believe that any procedure removing anything from your body that God gave us is as beneficial as keeping the original, if it can be saved!  Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.  Thank you.

It's my belief that no competent, ethical ophthalmologist (which includes the great majority of practitioners) would recommend cataract surgery unless your impaired vision were interfering with your daily functioning in a significant way.  This is not the case for you, so getting your glasses updated sounds like a good plan.  I would absolutely avoid mail order eye drops to treat cataracts, which (in the best case scenario) would just be a waste of money.

When I got a rapidly developing cataract following retinal surgery, learning more about cataracts and cataract surgery really helped to reduce my anxiety.  There's a lot of information available online at sites such as WebMD.  (One of my favorite info sources is the patient education video at www tecnisiol com.  It made me want to sign up for Tecnis lenses immediately.)  I think that there's a good chance that this strategy would work for you, too, although you may not be needing cataract surgery for a number of years.
