I had cateract surgery done last may. improvement in vision and color. my right eye is always blury. my left is better and clear. the halos are terrible. i cant drive after dusk. they appear to be worse as time goes by. i tried some eye dros and a lens but no help. whats next. the doctors here dont seem to know what to do.

You might consider taling to your doctor about trying low strength pilocarpine drops to help drive at night.  It will constrict pupil and make you see through the center zone for distance and may help a lot with halos at night.  Your halos with night driving are normal and expected with rezoom.  Make sure you have the proper glasses prescription.  If you have tried every possible help for problem - then you could just live with it or consider a lens exchange procedure and get a monofocal aspheric implant.

Did you surgery in both eyes?  Did it get worse with the second eye done? I had a Rezoom IOL in Oct. 07,  in one eye and also can't drive after dark because of halos and starburst. It is extremely frustrating. Day vision is good, especially outside.  I need to have the other eye done soon and have major concerns.  I am seeing a different doctor next month about the situation. After reading archives, it appears to be a problem for some Rezoom patients.

Having the second lens implanted wont help your situation. The problems you have now in the Rezoom eye will be in the other eye as well. My own experience. Please read all postings related to Rezoom problems. They are real!!! Hope doesn't resolve vision problems. The Rezoom lens, as we all are finding out, has many many problems. I guess we  should qualify the Rezoom lens as problematic rather than promising.

With a Rezoom in one eye, can a monofocal aspheric implant be placed in the other eye? Would this help to balance the night vision problems (unable to drive) and ghosting? I need to have the other cataract removed but will not have another ReZoom IOL. I think the current Dr. said he is required to put in a Rezoom. I have an appointment with a different Dr for his opinion in Feb. and will be meeting again with my current Dr. Please advise.
Thanks!

No one is required to put rezoom in second eye.  That is untrue.  Perhaps doctor would like to - but that is a long way from required to.  Now if cataract surgery is indeed indicated in the second eye for medical reasons - you might want to consider an aspheric monofocal implant.  It would be your safest bet.  You will still have problems with night driving most likely because of the first eye.  I always counsel patients very clearly that that rezoom IOL will most likely cause serious halos when driving at night and IOL Counselor software gives a nice demonstration to patients as to what the halos will look like.  Regarding the first eye that is bothering you so much - you might want to discuss with second surgeon the possibility of a lens exchange to remove rezoom and replace with monofocal aspheric IOL.  Otherwise, you can learn to adapt.

I'm new to this forum as to posting but have been monitoring your symptoms because they mimmic mine.  First, this forum is wonderful and is the best thing since they found 60% chocolate is good for you, (in moderation of course!).  Kudos to MJK MD and all you doctors that are making this possible!  Thank you.

I am 52, had cataract in right eye.  On October 31, 2007 had Rezoom lens implanted.  My research included references from a coworker that had both eyes done and other patients of a very reputable cataract & Laser Institute along with literature but obviously not this site.  All thought Rezoom was wonderful.  Only one put mono in second eye and thought it was great.  None have had problems after one week of surgery.  My left eye doesn't qualify yet for surgery and is far sighted.  I believe my right eye was dominant but not now.  It was near sighted so I have lost near vision I had. I see wonderfully outside but loose near vision.  In low light conditions I see near 8-12 inches eveything else blurry.  Can work at my desk with half glasses 1.25 cheeters yet see my computer screen with struggle with out glasses and out of distance for the cheeters.  Night time vision is terrible but left eye takes over which it does everywhere.  Second week after surgery Dr thought my measurements changed and were wrong for dialation to be a candidate for this lens.  I got a second opinion but result was I am a candidate.  Drs. wanted a contact in left eye but why when its perfectly fine for distance and I can't stand anything in my sensitve eyes and why would it help with low light situations.  Dr, gave me drops of Alphagan (Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution).  I am told it is for glaucoma but It restricts dialation. Works wonderfully at night reducing halos and I can see if someone is in a crosswalk. However great soreness in morning in eye like I just came out of surgery and I return to normal low light blurriness. I don't think this is a long term solution or is it or does this say the lens is wrong!

I'm suppose to make a decision to explant on 02/06/2008.  Still don't know what I'm going to do because I'm in hope denial as the post from "Instr" mentions.  My decision problem is that under low light I can read fine print at 8-10 inches while watching television clearly though everything around it is blurry. Same with night driving, with only using the Rezoom lens I can read any sign that omits light or reflects perfectly, just everything else is blurry.  Drs say I am 20/20. I've had no real changes for 60 days and may even be slightly worse when eyes are tired.

What does the aspheric mean in a monofocal?  Does anybody see the computer screen at about 24 inches with monofocal (distance) or even a golf ball on a tee????? If you do I will probably extract to monofocal to hopefully see clearer.

This is absolutely the best site for searching eye problems experienced by others. I had my 2nd cataract surgery in Nov., 2007. I had absolutely no problems from either one and so anxious to be fitted for new glasses. Well, it took 3 pairs of lenses before being able to adjust. However, I couldn't see at night with dry-eyes, the glare, etc.I dreaded starting a new day - not knowing how it would go. I could only tolerate my own familiar surroundings. I was desperate for any help I could find.  I read on this site that someone recommended Thiera Tears Nutrition. The directions suggested that you should experience dry-eye relief within 4-8 weeks. Well, I experienced TOTAL relief in 3 days. I have no problems with glare - day or night or any of the other problems I was experiencing. It is amazing how much this Omega-3 & Flaxseed Oil combination has changed my life. I simply cannot tell enough people how this product has helped me and hopefully will help others. It is definitely worth a try. It just may change your life also!
