risks of surgical enlargement of pinhole pupils

my young friend was born with extremely small eyes,with max pupil dilation of 1.5mm,he has been asked to consider surgical enlargement of his pupils,so as to enable an examination of the interior of his eyes.currently its not possible to see inside because of the extremely small aperture.he is wanting to know the possible risks and possible complications.his condition is hereditary,and affects 65 members of his fathers side of the family.

I would recommend that your friend first learn more about the condition he has inherited.  I would also recommend speaking with family members to determine what they have been told.  Further, what method has been suggested, laser or surgical?  There are many methods, laser or surgery to increase pupil size.
