secondry cataract or cloudy viterous

I posted before here but did not make it a question. I am going to re post.
To: MJK MD
Dr, I had cataract surgery 8 months ago on both eyes , and have had many complications with both eyes. I had a secondary catract to develop in just a few weeks of surgery but my surgeon would not Yag laser it at the time because of inflamation. Once the inflamation was gone (it took about 4 months) I had it Yag lasered twice and the cloud remains. Now I am being told that the problem is not in the capsule. It is a cloud in the vitreous. My vision seems the same to me ,whatever the reason for the heavy cloud.
My question is this==could two yag lasers have caused the cloud in the vitreous? I forgot to ask him that . I am beginning to think I will have to learn to live with this cloud. :O(

I am not an expert--in fact someone going through the same thing--complications of cataract surgery. But my neighbor, who is about 60 yo went through the same series of treatments--cataracts--laser--floaters. Her doctor, Dr. Big Reputation, suggested removing the vitreous, filtering out the floaters, then returning it. She declined that offer. He then said "...think about your eyes, they have not been kind to you, they have been a problem all of your life..." She seemed thankful for what she had in light of that perspective. It made me feel better that she shared that story with me, because of course we feel things should get better not worse or the same. My doctor seems to feel that more messing might lead to more problems, but he tends to hint around. I hope this helps...it seemed like cold comfort at first to me.
But as I thought about it, I felt better overall, because I am coming to think that cataracts are serious business particularly in younger people. There are too many rah-rah stories that make it seem like it is no big deal and that everything can be made good as new--nothing to it. After all, how many 70-80 yos (typical cataract patients) do you hear talking about their perfect vision? Most of them seem grateful to be able to what they can. I feel I am not being clear, but what I am trying to say is that I think there are many others who are having the same problems as you--it is just not widely discussed. In any case, I hope they are able to fix your particular problem to your satisfaction and that my comments have been helpful.

I know the question is a good one lol. I just wish I could get an answer before my next appointment in Dec. I want to know if a Yag laser can cause a cloud-----not a FLOATER==A CLOUD???? JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL ONE THAT THEY CALLED A SECONDARY CATARACT FOR 6 MONTHS?????????????????????????

Aleif, thank you for your kind response. You made yourself very clear. There are many of us with these problems.
I wish you all the luck possible for you.

Dear ladytalking,

One can experience clouding after a YAG due to the floater that is observed.  Usually, this will improve over time.  I still recommend that you ask your eyeMD about your specific situation and this excellent question.

I am under the care of a retinal specialist at the Mayo Clinic. Three doctors diagnosed the cloud as a "secondary cataract" and I had it Yag lasered twice with no change. It was at the next appointment that the same Dr told me that the cloud was not in the capsule now, but was in the vitreous., He did not recommend doing anything further at this time. My question to you is this===could the Yag laser cause a cloud much like the oiginal one in the capsule? I did not even think about it until I got home. Have you ever heard of this happening with a Yag laser? If I have it done again, it may just get worse.

Dear ladytalking,

I recommend that you seek the care of a retinal specialist to determine the cause of the cloud and whether, any treatment is indicated.
