should my son be re-checked for psuedopapiledima

should my son be re-checked for psuedopapiledima

When my son was 3 years old, he had psuedopapildema (sp?).  After observation for a year it cleared up.  Is there a chance that it could come back?  Should he be checked by a specialist again?  He is now 18 years old.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Pseudopapilledema means "looks like papilledema but it's not".  Papilledema means that the internal appearance of the optic nerves that go from the eyes to the brain is abnormally "swollen" looking.

Pseudopapilledema is a stationary condition, meaning that it should not "clear up". Usually it is just due to the natural congenital appearance of the patient's optic nerves. If the internal appearance of the optic nerves CHANGED between examinations, then there was some real disease process occurring.

So, I don't think you have the full story from the original diagnosis.
