sight lost in one eye

sight lost in one eye

Hi, i have lost my sight in one eye over a 10year period. i am 29 years old and when i was about 17 years old i noticed that sight in one of my eyes was not as good as the other. I also realised that i wasnt using my weaker eye at all and would only use it when i covered my stronger eye. I did nothing about it and over the years it got worse and now i am almost completely blind in one eye. I had a scan recently and it showed that i have a tiny growth on my optic nerve. My optic nerve is now aparently white, and not its usual grey healthy colour. I was silly to allow this problem to get worse, but could i have done anything to prevent it? I guess my optic nerve now is damaged. Can anything be done anywhere in the world? If so what? I am now contemplating having a bi opsy done on this growth. Is this a good idea? Will i ever get my sight back in this eye.? Will my eye look in a different direction soon and turn outwards? i hope you can help...

Dear baffy,

I would definitely seek help and care of an eyeMD.  I would definitely ask your doctors these questions.  Without knowing what you have, it is difficult to make predictions.  Try to take one step at a time and continue with the workup.  Become familiar with your situation and ask questions of your doctors.

Thank you for your reply.  If its the case as I suspect it is that my optic nerve is completely damaged is there any surgery that can be done to restore this?  The doctor thinks that I have a growth on the optic nerve (eye meningioma).  Is this treatable and can the sight be restored?
