silicone oil

silicone oil

I've had two retinal repairs, now I have scar tissue with fluid behind it.
Every thing else looks good.He wants to go in and remove scar and drain
off the fluid and put in the silicone oil..

He tells me that this operation will not be as intense as the last retinal repair.
And I should be able to back to work soon after , because no gas bubble,
rips in retina area, or laser work .

I have only 12 weeks left out of the 26 weeks of six leave.  Do you think I will be
ready by then?

My employer will fire me if I not back in time   ( this is not right)

I have been there, and I am back there again. I had a third sutgery with silicone oil , and also a fifth. It could work out very well for you. I had more complications than scar tissue . I had extremely low eye pressure. The part of the eye that makes the fluid to fill the eye and make it firm, became broken for me, because my lens capsule fell into it.

If you really want to know what is ahead, and you are prepared emotionally to hear it, ask your doctor what he thinks the outcome will be. My doctor told me nothing, and I also ended up quitting him,

I am critical of retinologists--and I assume your doctor is one, because I had a very bad experience.

I want for you to have the best possible chance for a good outcome. In my opinion, you are at a critical stage, and this is the usual treatment for your symptoms. I would get a second opinion, just to make sure that you are on the right track for YOUR eye..

I do not know what kind of work you do, but the recovery for each surgery is only about 2 weeks--of couse you cannot lift, etc., for a long time.

This is your life and your eye--guard them both carefully, by getting all the information you can. Maybe your doctor is fine, but keep on your toes. There is no one who can do that weel but you. Share what is happening with important people in your life. It is very good to talk it out, and to get their feedback.

Your doctor sees that the scar tissue is creating what they call traction, and that is pulling on the retina. It could detach again. Ask him if there are any recent new treatments, or any expert you might see.

Consult Castle Connelly on line, and find out where the nearest, highly recommended doctor is. The patient has to be his own advocate. Of course, do not delay treatment; just do the best you can.

Tell your doctor about the time limitations you are working against.

Please forgive any typos.

My heart goes out to you. I wish I were an expert, and that I could heal you.

If you want the doctor to comment on your question, post it again, just like a new question.
