simplest solution after one eye cataract surgery

I am very myopic. My left eye is -5 diopters and my right eye is -9.25 diopters with a cataract. It looks like I may have a cataract operation only on my right eye. If they they correct this with an IOL lens to say, close to 0 diopters, will I be able to get by with a contact lens on my left eye..and maybe eyeglasses on top of that, if necessary? Would the difference between my left eye and corrected right eye be too great for this? .. and, instead of the contact lens, could I get by with just progressive eyeglasses, or would the difference between the two eyes be too great for this.

I was told my one of my eye doctors that he wouldn't give me a new eyeglass prescription (this is before any cataract surgery) because my right eye has deteriorated in 6 months from -7 to -9.25 diopters and that the difference between the -5 in my left eye and -9.25 in my right eye is too great.

What is the simple, easiest solution to this problem other than getting surgery in both eyes?..which may not be covered in my insurance...don't know yet. I have a consult meeting with Kaiser Ophthalmology about this in about a week.

I have no more comments. You need to get further information from your surgeon.

Dear MB,
I understand that you are facing a stressful decision, but repeatedly rephrasing the same question will not elicit more useful information.  You have already gotten expert advice from Dr. Hagan, and several community members have offered their experience and insight.  Use this information to develop a list of questions that you can present to your doctor during your next visit.  If possible, I recommend that you bring a friend or family member to the appointment as a support as well as a second set of ears.  Then, if you wish to do so, request your records, and seek a second opinion.
Best wishes.
