small eye flashes

Hi,
I am 23 and highly myopic (-7.0 in both eyes). I had an eye injury about 4 months back which led to the development of 1 big floater in my left eye and 1 small floater in the right eye. I regularly consulted an eye specialist after that. Recently, I noticed that when I am in the dark and I move my eyes or my head, I have a flash near the periphery of the eye where I had gotten hit. I do not see any flashes if my eyes and head are stationary. Also, my eyes get tired eaisly nowadays, and I feel that they are heavy. Is this normal or should I consult another eye specialist?

This discussion can't go on forever. Call the retina specialist on Monday. Speak with his/her staff. Explain your situation. Ask whether you need to come in. This forum is not a substitute for having your own personal ophthalmologist and asking questions of him/her after you eyes have been examined. This is my last comment

Dear Doctor..I notice now that my flashes have become more frequent (or maybe I have started noticing them more often)..but they have the same intensity..However, the floaters have remained the same..I got my retina examined 2 weeks ago and he did not find any problems..Should I get my retina examined again?..Also, I move my eyes and rapidly sometimes to check for the flashes..Will it increase the risks of tears and detachment?

In most cases the flashes diminish over a matter of weeks and regular flashing generally is gond within 6-8 weeks.

Well...I have had a tough life and it is only now that I have started settling down..I have struggled with a lot of financial problems in my childhood and it is only now that things had started to look up. This injury has really affected me. It is just that I value my eyes too much and dont want to loose them. I think I will make an appointment with a psychiatrist. Thanks Dr. Hagan..

Well you should take some solace from a nornal exam without dire findings. If this is typical of the way you handle stress and health problems then perhaps a psychiatrist would help.

On the other hand if its just your eyes that are a problem then you can either get a second opinion or go back in 6 months for follow up unless something changes.

Dear Doctor...I had my eyes examined by a retina specialist today. First, his assistant tested my eyes and prescribed a new pair of glasses. Then, he checked my cornea using a machine with a blue light that touched my lids. Then he dilated my pupils and the doctor examined my eyes with indirect ophthalmoscope. He asked me to describe the flashes and whether they have increased..I described them and told him that I had started noticing them 10 days ago and they appear same to me. He examined the retina and told me to come back if the floaters or the flashes increased and get my retina examined after 6 months. He asked me to continue with my normal life...I am still concerned about my eyes even after his assurance..should I see a psychatrist

If you symptoms worsen call back and ask for an emergency work in exam.

Dear Doctor..I just made an appointment with a reputed retina specialist today..I have been given an appointment of 8th June, 9:00 a.m. Is it fine if I have to wait for this long for a checkup or should I try somewhere else?

Yes that indicates vitreous traction on the retina. See an Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in retina.
