son has accommodative esotropia

by roccosmom, Jan 11, 2008 03:42PM
We found out yesterday that my 12 month old son has accommodative esotropia. His doctor said he is severely farsighted. He prescribed him glasses one eye is 3.75 and the other is 5.  We are trying glasses before surgery. The doctor gave me some papers on his condition and one of the cause could be a brain tumor. I was just wondering if anyone know how they rule out that possibility and if they are any other signs of something as serious as a brain tumor I should be looking for? I plan one calling the doctor on monday, but now I'm worried.

To: BE SURE ITS EYE MD
First you child needs to be under the care of a MD physician. An MD eye physician is called an ophthalmologist. If you are seeing a non-MD non-physician optometrist you need to get in to an Eye MD maybe even a pediatric ophthalmologist. You can find one at www.aao.org

Accomodative strabismus is by definition due to hyperopia and not a brain turmor.  Brain tumors cause non-accommodative non-commitant strabismus.

Be sure the "doctor" is an Eye MD.
