sons eye turns inward

hey,
I have noticed for the past few months my 5 year old sons right eye turns inward when he is eating and the fork gets close to his face or anythng gets close to his face. It seems to get worse when he is watching tv and he also rubs it a lot and complains about it. It seems to begetting worse in general. Do you know the name of this condition or what i should do about it? thanks angelina

This is called esotropia, and is a form of strabismus where the eyes cross inward.  He could also have amblyopia or a lazy eye.  It is very important that you take him to see a pediatric ophthalmologist.  He may need glasses or patching or sometimes even surgery.  You can use the search feature at www.aao.org in order to find one in your area.
