sponge in eye

sponge in eye

Can I share that I just had a sponge removed from under my eyelid that was left in there for 6 months after a trebeculectomy and cataract surgery. My doctor could not discern what it was even though I had "boring pain", it was visible, and surrounded with deep red sclera. Finally a Doctor at the MERSI clinic in Boston diagnosed it and removed it. The sponge that was soaked in MMC caused scleritis and thinned my sclera.  Fortuantely my eye is better now but if not treated it can cause lots of damage. From all I have been told, this is an unusual occurance and not common at all.
