strabismus

I was wondering how you know if you have strabismus. I have gone to 2 eye doctors and they said it could be slight? The last dr I went to said, well I don't see it now and even if you did have it it would be cosmetic. My mom says that she's never seen it but I have serious issues with it, now knowing if I have one eye that is turning out. It makes me where I don't even want to go to the store or get out of the house. So how would I know for sure if I had strabismus with eye turn outward? Is there symptoms that go along with it?

If your eyes are sometimes to often not straight and one turns outward you do have strabismus. If it is out sometimes but not others it's called intermittent exotropia.

Go to www.aao.org and use the eye MD finder to locate a strabismus-pediatric ophthalmologist in your area.

Thanks for answeing. The thing is, I don't know if my eyes turn or not. I am going to see an ophthalmologist in Oct. There aren't any strabismus MD in my area, hopefully they can tell me whether I have it or not.

A  comprehensive Eye MD ophthalmologst will easily be able to tell if you have strabismus. It is important to have the Eye MD look at your eyes before they are dilated. So ask the technicians not to dilate you eyes till the Eye MD makes an eye muscle test.

The last time I went to the eye doctor he didn't even dialate my eyes, I think it's because I had medicaid. Now I have insurance through my husbands work, so maybe they will do the necessary testing. So through the eye muscle test they can tell if you have strabismus whether it's intermittent or not?

Yes: but the testing is more accurate if its done before your eyes are dilated.
