strabisus surgeon

Hi, I am 23 and i am going to undertake strabismus surgery. I am from the UK and it is very hard to aquire information about doctors / surgeons here. Would it be possible for you suggest any good strabismus surgeons here in the UK, or offer any advice about how to determine if a surgeon is highly regarded (as i am having no luck at all in doing so). Also would i find the best outcome from strabismus surgery would be obtained by travelling to the United States.

Hello Stevet   All I know about the UK medical system is what people post in these two eye forums. The universal complaint is how long it takes to see a specialist and have critical tests.  Also apparently the country is bereft of dentists that belong to the NHS.

Some strabismus surgery is relatively straightforward and can be done easily by a comprehensive Eye MD physician (ophthalmologist) while other procedures require a strabismus specialist.

You would have to make the decision whether to go to the expense of having your surgery done in the USA. Also recall that follow up is very often needed for several weeks.

I'm sure that there are excellent stabismus surgeons in the UK.  I'd think that other ophthalmologists in your area would have a pretty good idea about who is good.  It would be great if you could get a referral from a general ophthalmologist whose opinion you trust.
