sunlight realted blind spot

In this last week I have been really worried, a week ago I looked out of the window and the sun reflected off the side of a car causing me to get that typical blind spot similar to when someone uses flash on their camera, but it lasted well over 5 mins with the side of my eye having a spot where the side was trembling and I could not see thorough it. It made me feel not quite with it.
It happened again in the local supermarket and lasted longer this time without any particularly bright lights, and again today.
I wear contact lenses and have done since uni I am 32 now.
I have a stigmatism in my right eye but only 1.75 loss of vision
my mother had a detached retina 2 years ago and I am very concerned.

You should not have any problems from these exposures to light.
