Cataract as a cause of glaucoma is very rare in developed countries where cataract surgery is common. In developing countries cataracts becoming "Too ripe" or "hyper mature" is not rare.

Cataracts are normally removed when the vision is not satisfactory for doing the things a person needs to do and wants to do and cataracts are the cause or the major cause.
