swollen retina/steriod injection

I am 38 years old and  had surgery last Jan. to fix my detached retina.  My Dr. said the detachment was a serious 9 out of 10.  My question is this, why am I still having trouble seeing clearly from this eye?  I know that my retina is swollen, everything I've tried to do to correct this has not helped.  I am scheduled to have a steriod injection in 3 days.  Do you think this will fix it for good or is it just a short term fix?

I had a Kenalog injection to try to raise the pressure. My ciliary body is gone. I have a different problem. BTW, my doctor treated the eye so that there was no pain at all. But he never explained side effects--just gave me apaper to sign.

Scar rissue is a serious problem, yet multiple surgeries can cause problems, also.

I would get a second opinion, simply because two heads are better than one. We can recommend someone if we know where you are. Yis is a very serious problem. Ihad so much scar tissue that I had to have 5 surgeries. If they have not needed tooperate again for 10months, your problem seems less severe thatn mine. I had surgeries in Mar, Mar. Apr, July, and Dec 2007. Scar tissue and ciliary body were main problems. The doctor's cruelty did not help, either,

As I said, my problems seem more serious. and my eye has almost no vision, and I have lost color and form in the eye.  Yet I want to keep it, of course.

If I were you, I would get all the kind support you can and I would also find the most talented doctor available. When they put silicone oil in my eye the first time, I knew it was about over. This does not have to be true for you, is the doctor should propose it, but get the best help you can. Ultimately, you might help yourself and you will know youdid everything you could.

There are a lot of smart retina surgery survivors in this forum, and they are all willing to support you with information,if that will help.

Write anytime.

I just wish you the best success possible.

My doc has warned me about side effects however he said that the risks are greater when you do more than one injection.  Do you think I will have good results with one injection or will I need more?  Maybe that is hard to answer without actually seeing me.  He has also mentioned that more surgery to remove scar tissue could be a last resort.  Thank you for all your answers!

What about the steroid injection?  Do you think this will help?  I am worried it may just be a quick fix.

A retinal detachment is a ultra serious problem and even if the retina is re-attached the vision may not return to normal, you may have distortion. Sometimes it take a year or more to know how much will recover. Discuss with your surgeon.
