swollen retinas

hello, today I found out my 12yr old daughter was diagnose with a swollen retina by an optomologist specialist in our home town, a refer by our optomotrist. This optomologist specialist doesn't really know why she has it and it is unusual for her age to have it in the first place. He doesn't seem to know how to answer my concern or questions. He doesn't know at this point on how to treat it, but did prescribed her some drops (Xibrom) for 4 wks.  We are to see him in 4wks for the next step.  I feel that I need to take my daughter to see another optomologist specialist, a second opinion if you will.  Is there anything that can be done? Will this lead to blindness?  Can this be treated? Please help!  Please help!

What is an OCT?  today 9/9/10 my daughter had a 3rd visit w/ her retinas consultant and she is not better. He said she is a line worst than the first time he saw her in July.  she has been on Xibrom drops. She had all lab works, including PPD, RPR, FTA-ABS, ACE level, Bartonella tiker, lyme titer, and even angiogram everything shows up negative.  He could not find anything other than her retinas are swollen. He recommend steroid pills next while we get a refer to see a specialist in Ureitis? at USC.

Any suggestions you may would be helpful.
thank you,

She probably had an OCT.  Did she have a flourescein angiogram?

we did see a retinal specialist, and he said my daughter has swollen retinas.  At this point she is using the eye drop Xibrom for 4 wks and follow up a visit.  Since she has no other illness or previous surgery of any kind, what could cause this swollen in the retinas?  what kind of test should be done? what steps as a parent that I can take?

thanks,

LV

Swollen retina is a very nonspecific term.  Get a referral to a retinal specialist.
