I had my thyroid taken out April 06 (hyper). My eyes are starting to bulge again, itch intensley, and very sensitive to light. I feel like I'm constantly straining my eyes.  My eyelids are so puffy that they feel so heavy, I just want to close my eyes ALL the time. Orbital decompression is what the doctor suggested, but I'm soooo terrified.  Anything that has to do with my eyes just freak me out!  Please can anyone who has this surgery let me know what to expect, is real bad? Unfortunalty I experienced my first "panic attack" last Monday, so maybe thats why my eyes are bulgy I don't know extreme STRESS maybe..my eye doctor is Dr. Shore (Austin, Texas)....

This discussion is related to orbital decompression due to thyroid.

Thyroid eye disease and Grave's disease the hyperthyroid eye disease do not always move in the same direction. Get a second opinion. In severe cases orbital decompression is the best RX in others oral steroids can help a great deal. Be sure you do not smoke as that makes it A LOT worse.
