treatment for lattice degeneration

If one is diagnosed to have a lattice degeneration (just a thinning of retina so far, no tear yet but there is a tendency to break), is it necessary at this stage to treat it by laser photocoagulation?

Generally no. About 6-8% of people have lattice. I have lattice in both eyes. Generally it does not create any problems.

Thanks Dr. Hagan.  I have then a choice not to proceed with the laser therapy for
I rather want parts of my eye still the same.  My vision is still normal.  What bothers me I have teary eyes sometimes.  Is there a connection with teary eyes and lattice degeneration?   What should I do or precautionary measure so that the lattice degeneration will not progressed or to prevent tear or hole in the retina?

Dear ebony1214,

The current recommendation is to not usually treat lattice degeneration unless there are symptomatic flap tears.  I would recommend that you seek the care of a retinal specialist to determine whether this is needed.
