It very possible even likely that they were not there three years ago. Just like spots come up on your skin the same thing happens in the eye.

Only the tests will tell if this is serious. MOST AREN"T SERIOUS.

Color photos: to document present appearance to see if in the future it gets bigger or changes in appearance.

Ultrasound: to see how thick it is and if the interior resembles benign sports or if it might resemble a melanoma (malignant). Also to be sure its not growing into deeper layers of the eye

Thank you  for your advice. it  is  a consultant retinal surgeon that wants the ultrasound done , these spots were found in december 05 ,but we were not told about them  apparently they have increased  in size i keep telling myself that surley if it was anything sinister he would have had symptoms ,his vision is no different  he only wears glasses for reading ,he isnt  a smoker, not overweight is not ill in anyway .

I would not panic just yet, especially if your husband was seen by an non-MD, non-physician optometrist.  Freckles, moles (technically called nevi) are common in the eye and the great great majority are benign just like moles on the skin.
